A young man tragically lost his life during the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruitment event in Kirinyaga County.
The incident occurred at Kianyaga Stadium in Gichugu.
The man, identified as Francis Wachira Kabuga, collapsed while entering the stadium after completing the final lap of the recruitment exercise.
Prompt first aid was administered at the scene before he was swiftly taken to Kianyaga sub-county hospital.
As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital, where he sadly passed away later in the evening.
Kirinyaga East sub-county police commander Millicent Ochuka explained that Kabuga had been participating in the recruitment run along with other candidates when he suddenly fell ill.
His body now rests at Kibugi Funeral Home in Kutus, awaiting a postmortem examination to determine the cause of his untimely death.
In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the Kabuga family, led by his father Charles Kabuga, expressed their shock and sorrow.
They received a phone call informing them of the situation while they were at Kegwa village in Gichugu.
Charles Kabuga recounted, “I was called by his wife telling me Wachira has been taken to Kerugoya Hospital after he collapsed in Kianyaga General Stadium.
I took a boda boda and rode over 30 kilometers from my home where I was shocked to see him lifeless in Kerugoya hospital.”
The family had held high hopes for 25-year-old Kabuga, who had aspired to join the KDF and fulfill his dream.
