In a devastating incident on Sunday evening, a trailer lost control on the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway in Kikopey, resulting in the tragic deaths of five individuals.
The trailer first struck pedestrians along the highway before colliding with a building where a group of people was engaged in a game of pool.
Six others sustained serious injuries and are currently undergoing medical treatment at the Gilgil sub-county hospital.
Confirming the incident, Francis Tumbo, the Gilgil sub-county police boss, stated that the two pedestrians were hit around 9 p.m. as they walked along the highway.
Urging caution, Tumbo highlighted a previous accident where a 16-seater matatu collided with a trailer, claiming the lives of four men and a child on the spot.
Expressing concern for pedestrian safety, the police boss called on individuals to be vigilant when walking along the road.
The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to the Gilgil sub-county hospital mortuary, and investigations into the accident are ongoing.
