Twelve individuals have been detained by authorities after an attempt to assault Bondo Police Station during a series of unsuccessful anti-government protests on Thursday.
The incident, which unfolded in Bondo town, Siaya County, saw youths gathering and attempting to barricade roads before escalating into an assault on the police station itself.
According to reports from Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo, the unrest began around midday when demonstrators started to block thoroughfares.
By early afternoon, a faction of the protesters intensified their actions by launching a barrage of stones at the police station, prompting a swift response from an enhanced anti-riot team led by Commander Kimaiyo.
In a determined effort to restore order, the anti-riot team successfully dispersed the violent demonstrators from the town.
During the operation, authorities managed to apprehend twelve suspects allegedly involved in the assault on the police station using various projectiles.
Despite the tense situation, Commander Kimaiyo confirmed that there were no injuries reported among law enforcement or the demonstrators.
The detained individuals are expected to face charges related to the attack and will appear in court on Friday.
