Detectives from the anti-narcotics unit in Kwale County have arrested two suspects found in possession of cannabis valued at 9.2 million shillings.
The arrests were made in Diani’s Chief’s Corner after police received a tip-off about illegal drug activity in the area.
The first suspect, Hamisi Omar, was apprehended during the operation.
Upon interrogation, Omar led officers to a warehouse where they uncovered ten sacks of marijuana weighing a total of 314.05 kilograms.
The discovery prompted further investigations, which led to the arrest of a second suspect, 30-year-old Irene Auma.
In a related operation in Rusinga West ward, police seized additional sacks of cannabis valued at 1.7 million shillings.
During the raid, authorities also confiscated 30 jars of illegal Chang’aa liquor, valued at 240,000 shillings.
However, the main suspect in this case, Kevin Barasa, also known as Kevo, managed to evade arrest and is currently on the run.
Hamisi Omar and Irene Auma are now in police custody as investigations continue. Police are actively searching for Barasa, who remains at large.
The seized cannabis and liquor are being held as evidence and will be presented in court during the upcoming trial.
The arrests and drug seizures are part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug trafficking in Kwale and surrounding regions.
Authorities have vowed to intensify their crackdown on illegal drug activities, with a focus on disrupting the networks responsible for distributing narcotics.
Police are also urging the public to come forward with any information that could aid in the arrest of Kevin Barasa and other individuals involved in the drug trade.
