Two officers stationed at Kiamaciri Police Station have been apprehended in connection with the contentious escape of a Ugandan murder suspect while under their watch.
The suspect, detained for the brutal slaying of his employer, managed to vanish mysteriously from custody last Friday.
Following a court ruling permitting detectives a 14-day window to conclude their inquiries, the suspect was being held at the station.
Jason Mworia, an official from the County Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), confirmed the arrest of the officers.
Additionally, another detainee who had fled alongside the Ugandan suspect has been recaptured.
The arrested officers potentially face charges for facilitating the escape of suspected criminals from lawful confinement.
Mworia underscored the danger posed by the fugitive, emphasizing the urgency in re-incarcerating him: “This individual is a significant threat, capable of committing further atrocities. Our priority is to return him to custody as swiftly as possible.”
The suspect’s capture culminated a seven-month pursuit, initiated after he allegedly murdered his employer, 64-year-old Rose Muthoni Kariuki, in Kombuini village, Mwea Sub-county.
The victim was discovered lifeless in her residence, her body bearing signs of violence, with blood emanating from her mouth and nose.
Investigators traced the suspect’s whereabouts to Uganda through his mobile phone, which he had allegedly stolen from the crime scene.
Authorities managed to recover Muthoni’s phone during the suspect’s apprehension.
