Three people are missing in the Kapchebogel area of Baringo following a landslide that struck their homes on Tuesday night.
The landslide resulted in the destruction of three houses, according to a police report filed at the Kabartonjo Police Station on Wednesday.
The landslide, which occurred in the middle of the night, has led to the death of two people, confirmed by the area chief.
Benson Amdany Sumukwo from Saimo location shared that the landslide was sudden and severe.
Authorities have reported that three men remain unaccounted for, while four other individuals have been successfully rescued from the affected area.
In one of the homes destroyed by the landslide, Zakayo Ruto, his wife Gladys Chepkangor, and their 13-year-old son were swept away.
Samuel Chesaro, another resident of Kapchebogel, was rescued from his house, which was also carried away by the landslide.
Additionally, a third house belonging to the late Isaac Kimuge was destroyed, though it was not occupied at the time of the disaster.
Rescue operations are ongoing as teams search for the missing persons.
The local authorities and rescue teams are working tirelessly to locate the missing individuals and provide assistance to those affected.
Residents are being urged to move to safer areas to reduce the risk of further casualties.
The Kapchebogel, Kapkombe, and Kasisit regions are currently at high risk of additional mudslides due to the ongoing heavy rains.
