The incident also left two employees injured, one of whom later passed away at Rabai Sub-county Hospital in Kilifi.
In Gogoraruhe village, the cyclone ravaged the roof of Gogoraruhe Mosque ECDE School, resulting in injuries to five pupils.
Despite prompt medical attention at Mariakani Sub-county Hospital, the four-year-old victim tragically succumbed to her injuries, while the others sustained head and limb injuries and are currently receiving treatment.
Authorities at Gotani police station in Kaloleni sub-county, Kilifi, have initiated an investigation into the incidents.
Kilifi North Deputy County Commissioner Samuel Mutisya highlighted the impact on schools, urging teachers to prioritize student safety by avoiding learning in compromised classrooms and ensuring cautious supervision during outdoor activities.
The cyclone’s aftermath has left residents grappling with disrupted essential services like electricity and water supply.
Coast Water Works Development Agency (CWDA) issued a statement informing the public about water supply interruptions affecting Kilifi and Mombasa counties due to power cuts caused by fallen trees damaging power cables.
As of Wednesday afternoon, several areas in Mombasa and Kilifi remained without power.
The Kenya Meteorological Department reported Cyclone Ialy’s unusual intensification into a tropical cyclone near the Kenyan coast, with expectations for it to dissipate by Wednesday.
