Five individuals, including two Tanzanians, were brought before the Makindu Law Court in Makueni County to face charges of armed robbery and the murder of Joseph Kamala.
Kamala’s body was discovered in Makindu on August 31, sparking a significant investigation into his death.
The accused, identified as Boniface Mugira, George Maina, James Mwangi, Victor Arnold, and Antipas Msana, appeared before Principal Magistrate Evans Mbicha.
Each of the defendants entered a plea of not guilty to the charges.
They are alleged to have stolen a motorcycle valued at sh. 176,100 and to have been involved in the killing of Mr. Kamala, who was found dead under circumstances that led to their arrest.
During the court proceedings, the prosecution detailed the charges against the accused, highlighting the severity of the offenses.
Given the gravity of the charges, including violent robbery and murder, the court decided to deny bail.
The five suspects will remain in custody as the case progresses.
Their next court date is scheduled for September 24, when the court will conduct a case mention to review the status of the proceedings and address any preliminary issues.
The detention of the suspects until this date reflects the seriousness of the charges and the need for continued investigation and judicial oversight.
The case has garnered significant attention due to the nature of the crime and the involvement of foreign nationals.
The court’s decision to hold the suspects in custody until their next appearance underscores the judicial system’s commitment to addressing serious criminal offenses and ensuring justice for the victim and the community.
