Paolice in Uganda’s eastern Kikuku district have taken swift action following the emergence of a distressing video capturing the assault of a teenage Muslim girl.
The footage, which quickly went viral, depicted the girl being subjected to a brutal flogging allegedly by her own family members.
The reason behind this abhorrent act? Her attendance at a church prayer convention, an act that apparently enraged her guardians.
The victim, identified as Naula, found herself pinned to the ground by two men, while others mercilessly beat her, purportedly chastising her for her religious choices.
According to reports from the regional police spokesperson, Samuel Semewo, Naula endured a horrifying ordeal, enduring a hundred lashes administered by her own uncles.
Semewo conveyed the disturbing details, stating that Naula had persisted in attending prayers at a nearby church, defying the wishes of her guardians.
It was reported that following an overnight prayer session where Naula actively participated in the church choir, her uncles were confronted by the pastor upon their arrival to collect her.
They were informed that Naula was engaged in leading the congregation in praise and worship, further infuriating her family.
Upon returning home, Naula was met with immediate violence.
Her uncles, in a reprehensible act of aggression, subjected her to a barrage of lashes.
Each family member allegedly took turns, inflicting between five to ten lashes on the defenseless teenager.
In response to this appalling incident, law enforcement swiftly moved to apprehend seven suspects, all aged between 24 and 29, including the custodian of the teenager.
It was revealed that Naula’s mother had traveled to Saudi Arabia for domestic work, leaving her in the care of these individuals.
Despite the physical and emotional trauma inflicted upon her, Naula is currently in the process of recovery pending a comprehensive medical examination.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation and calls for justice across the nation, with many expressing shock and disbelief at such barbaric behavior.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are under increasing pressure to ensure that those responsible are held fully accountable for their reprehensible actions.
