The Council of Governors (CoG) has announced its new leadership team, appointing Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi as Chair.
Abdullahi assumes this important role during a crucial period when county governments are grappling with pressing issues like healthcare and resource mobilization, aiming to enhance coordination between national and county administrations.
Joining Abdullahi in leadership are Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, who has been appointed Vice Chair, and Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, who will serve as Chief Whip.
Together, they will guide the CoG’s agenda, ensuring counties receive the necessary support and resources to advance Kenya’s devolution initiatives.
The newly appointed leadership team also includes key figures to head various vital committees.
Kakamega Governor Fernandez Baraza will chair the Finance Committee, while Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki will lead the Health Committee.
The Environment and Forestry Committee will be overseen by Vihiga Governor Wilberforce Otichilo, and Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka will head the Agricultural Committee.
Garissa Governor Nathif Adam has been tasked with chairing the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands Committee, while Kericho Governor Eric Mutai will lead the Education Committee.
West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin will spearhead the Gender, Youth, and Sports Committee, and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja will oversee the Human Resource, Labour, and Social Welfare Committee.
Additional appointments include Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wesley Rotich as chair of the ICT Committee, Kisumu Governor Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o leading the Lands and Housing Committee, and Migori Governor Achillo Ayacko heading the Legal Committee.
Kisii Governor Simba Arati will chair the Resource Mobilization Committee, while Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi will take charge of the Security Committee.
Lastly, Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu will lead the Tourism Committee, and Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti will oversee the Trade Committee.
Marsabit Governor Mohammed Ali will chair the Transport Committee, with Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu heading the Water Committee.
