The United Democratic Movement (UDM) has condemned the abduction of Wajir County Member of County Assembly (MCA) Yussuf Hussein Ahmed, which took place in Nairobi.
During a press briefing at the party’s headquarters in Nairobi on Sunday, UDM party leader Ali Roba called for justice and expressed deep concern over the ordeal faced by Hussein’s family, his community, and the party.
Roba stressed that any allegations against the MCA should be addressed through legal channels and called on law enforcement agencies to take swift action.
“We urge the Inspector General of Police, the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the National Intelligence Service (NIS), and any other relevant bodies to immediately bring Hon.
Yussuf Hussein to court,” Roba stated.
“If there are any allegations against him, he should face them through the proper judicial process.”
The party also used the occasion to welcome new members from Dagoretti, reinforcing its growing political influence.
UDM now has four governors, two elected senators, one nominated senator, six elected Members of Parliament (MPs), one nominated MP, 18 elected MCAs, and 13 nominated MCAs.
The abduction of MCA Yussuf Hussein Ahmed took place on September 13, when armed men abducted him in Nairobi.
The case took a chilling turn when, on October 20, a body believed to be that of the Wajir MCA was found in Lake Yahud.
The family, however, identified the body, only to learn through DNA tests that it did not match that of Hussein.
As the investigation continued, Hussein’s family took the matter to the High Court, seeking orders for his immediate production, dead or alive.
They raised concerns that the government may have misled them by presenting the wrong body. High Court Judge Alexander Muteti is overseeing the case.
On November 7, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja confirmed that no arrests had been made in connection with the abduction, despite mounting pressure from human rights groups and the MCA’s family.
The family and various organizations have continued to demand answers regarding the whereabouts of Hussein, calling for swift action and transparency in the investigation.
