Willis Ayieko, the late Human Resource Manager at Wells Fargo, is set to be buried on Saturday, November 9, at his home in Ong’iende village, located in the Central Alego area of Siaya County.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 7, at All Saints’ Cathedral in Nairobi, after which his remains will be transported to his final resting place.
Ayieko’s body was discovered on October 23, 2024, at around 2:00 PM in the Mungowere stream, which lies on the border between Siaya and Kakamega counties.
His disappearance had followed a visit to a funeral in Gem, and his vehicle was found abandoned at a petrol station in Sabatia, Kakamega County.
An autopsy conducted by Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor revealed that Ayieko died from head injuries, causing significant bleeding in the brain.
Dr. Oduor also noted bruises on Ayieko’s wrists from cuffs and extensive tissue damage to his mouth, ear, and cheek.
The missing tissue was attributed to predation by water animals like fish and crabs, which likely targeted the soft tissue exposed at the scene.
In connection with his murder, police have arrested Otieno Omondi, a bodaboda rider, in Kisumu.
Omondi is accused of transporting Victor Ouma, also known as Sisco, to the location where Ayieko was abducted.
According to Omondi, he was paid sh 9,000 for his role.
Omondi confirmed that Ouma, who is currently in police custody, wore a blue jacket during the crime evidence captured on multiple CCTV recordings during subsequent withdrawals made from Ayieko’s phone at various Mpesa agents and banks.
Ouma, along with his deceased brother Robert Wakolo Okoth, is linked to the crime, with authorities continuing to investigate the full circumstances of Ayieko’s death.
Wakolo had a history of violent crimes, including the fatal shooting of an Mpesa agent in Kisumu earlier this year.
