A coalition of women governors, 30 Members of Parliament, and several MCAs has officially endorsed Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru for a higher political position after her governorship concludes.
Speaking at the G7 Summit in Kirinyaga County on Thursday, the governors expressed their belief that Waiguru is well-prepared for national leadership, particularly for the role of Deputy President.
The governors praised Waiguru, who also serves as Chairperson of the Council of Governors (COG), as a transformative leader with a remarkable track record.
They highlighted her achievements as governor as a solid foundation for her future in national politics.
Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti commended Waiguru’s efforts in improving the health sector, indicating her intent to replicate similar initiatives in her own county.
“Governor Waiguru is a dedicated worker.
We are here to learn from each other.
I had the pleasure of witnessing the initiation of Kerugoya Hospital, and I am thrilled that it has been completed and well-equipped.
Its standards rival those of the top hospitals in the country,” Wavinya noted, emphasizing the need for more such improvements at a national level.
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga highlighted Waiguru’s selfless service to her county and endorsed her for any national role.
“She is a strong woman suited for any position,” Wanga affirmed, reflecting on the valuable lessons G7 members have learned from Waiguru’s legacy in Kirinyaga.
Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani lauded Waiguru as a mentor and champion for women’s leadership, asserting that she has matured into a formidable candidate for national politics.
Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya remarked on Waiguru’s unique accomplishments in Kirinyaga, while Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau stressed the importance of women leaders uniting to increase female representation in politics.
“The future is women.
By 2032, we expect a woman to be president, and Waiguru will be among those leading the way,” she said.
Waiguru herself emphasized the need to enhance opportunities for women in leadership, asserting that the G7 movement aims to maximize the potential of devolution in Kenya while amplifying women’s voices.
She concluded by calling for continued support to empower aspiring women leaders, ensuring they have the resources and opportunities to thrive.
