Police in Bungoma said Tuesday, May 30 they had summoned two popular preachers in the area for questioning.
They include Ronald Nakalila Wanyama, also known as Nabii Yohana, 83. The other one runs a church called Choma.
They are supposed to appear before the Bungoma Police Commander on June 2.
Bungoma police commander Franci Kooli said the preachers will be questioned on how their churches operate.
“There are some issues we want to understand from them,” he said.
He said they can’t understand if the church belonging to Nabii Yohana operates as a healing center or religious organization.
Kooli said they had also summoned the owner of a church called Choma.
“We want to order here. We want to know how they are run.”
Nabii Yohana runs the Church for All Nations church in Kanduyi, Bungoma, and has made headlines before, including claims that he would unveil his own bible as well as a new currency.
Kooli said the preacher, who has 42 wives and 289 children, is being investigated for alleged controversial teachings.
He is well-known for, among other things, a 93-book bible that he is said to have written and that he uses to preach at his ministry.
He is also said to have devised his own commandments, reducing the original twelve given by Moses in the Bible to ten.
He is the second preacher in the area to be summoned in less than a month over controversial teachings.
Police had summoned Bungoma-based preacher Eliud Wekesa, popularly known as Yesu wa Tongaren for grilling.
He was released by a court.
Police want to know if the institutions are registered as per the law.
