Police are investigating the drowning of a 14-year-old girl at a swimming pool in Gucha Sub-County, Kisii County, where a pool attendant has been arrested to assist with investigations.
The incident occurred at about 2.40 p.m. on Sunday at Sameta Lodge along the Kisii–Kilgoris Road.
A relative told investigators that her cousin,, suddenly went missing while they were in the pool.
After searching for her, she found the 14-year-old lying at the bottom of the six-foot-deep swimming pool.
She raised the alarm, prompting the pool attendant to dive into the water and rescue the girl.
The attendant administered first aid before rushing her to Lenmek Hospital for treatment.
She was later referred to Gucha Sub-County Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police visited and documented the scene as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the drowning began.
Police arrested the pool attendant to assist with investigations.
Authorities are seeking to establish whether there was any negligence that may have contributed to the incident.
Elsewhere, police have launched investigations after a gang of about 10 people tied up security guards before breaking into two godowns and stealing goods of unknown value at a warehouse complex in Embakasi, Nairobi.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 6 p.m. on Sunday at Alphana Centre along Mombasa Road.
The robbery was reported later in the evening by a representative of a Security Company, which provides security services at the premises, after night guards alerted the company to the break-in.
Police visited the scene and established that the suspects gained access through the main gate before overpowering and tying up two security guards.
Police said the gang then cut the padlocks to Godown No. 8, which stores aluminium products, and Godown No. 10, which deals in duvet blankets, before making away with goods whose value is yet to be established.
The owners of the affected godowns have been notified and are expected to visit the premises to conduct a stock assessment and determine the value and quantity of the stolen items.
Police preserved the scene for forensic documentation as investigations continue to identify and trace the suspects behind the robbery.
