Another suspect in the probe into the gouging out of the eyes of a three-year-old boy in Kisii was Monday night arrested in Nairobi.
Police said Pacifica Nyakerario was arrested in the Kasarani area, Nairobi.
She is the mother of Alex Maina Ochogo who is also a prime suspect in the case.
Police traced her to a house she was in since the day baby Junior Sagini had his eyes gouged out in a village in Kisii.
This came hours after Ochogo was presented in court over the case.
She was Monday night moved to Kisii where investigations are ongoing.
Pacifica was Tuesday, December 20 presented in Kisii law court where the police sought to have her detained for a long to enable them complete investigations.
Ochogo appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Christine Ogweno for gouging the eyes of the three-year-old boy at Ikuruma village in Marani Sub-county, Kisii County.
Prosecutor Hilary Kaino made the miscellaneous application to detain the suspect for five days to enable the police to conclude investigations and also arrest more suspects including the mother of Ochogo.
Kaino told the court that Ochogo was seen escorting his mother to a bus station, who then fled to Nairobi on the day baby Sagini was found bloodied in a maize plantation.
Police are investigating a case of attempted murder.
Ogweno ruled that the suspect will be detained at Rioma police station for five days as the police conclude with the investigations.
The suspect will be arraigned in the same court on December 23.
Baby sagini who is admitted at Kisii Eye hospital told doctors a man with a rope and a torch took him from their home compound where he was playing with other kids.
Police investigators say Ochogo and his mother Pacifica are suspected to have gouged out Sagini’s eyes to be used as a ritual after the two had conspired in December 2021 and killed his (the suspect’s) father.
The child and his elder sister are expected to be brought to Nairobi for further rehabilitation.
