Gaucho, Co-Accused Released On Sh5,000 After Arraignment In Kiambu

Self-proclaimed Bunge la Mwananchi president Calvin Okoth Otieno alias Gaucho was Tuesday released on a Sh5,000 cash bail by a Kiambu court.

This follows his arrest on Monday, May 29 outside City Hall, Nairobi.

Five other members of the group were charged alongside Gaucho. It is not clear where they are said to have caused disturbance as claimed by police.

He accused the police of being used to harass him politically.

Gaucho was arrested by undercover police for unknown reasons while engaging supporters outside the county headquarters.

The aspiring politician who is a staunch supporter of the opposition leader Raila Odinga as well as former president Uhuru Kenyatta was arraigned on charges of creating disturbance, according to detectives.

Police said Tuesday evening that Gaucho pleaded not guilty.

Earlier today, Calvin Okoth Otieno alias “Gauchowas arraigned before Kiambu law courts on charges of creating disturbance contrary to section 95 (1)(b) of the penal code.

The suspect pleaded not guilty and was released on a Sh20,000 bond or cash bail of Sh5,000,” read a report from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

Monday’s arrest was the second time Gaucho was caught within a week.

Gaucho has protested his continued harassment and failure by the Azimio leaders to defend him.

When Maina Njenga was arrested all top Azimio leaders ran to DCI headquarters and court in Nakuru. But when I and other supporters are arrested no one comes to our aid, why?” he asked outside Kiambu Law Court.

He said the bipartisan talks must succeed or else he and other supporters will not turn up if the leaders call for protests.

Last Tuesday, May 23, he was arrested and detained overnight at Muthangari police station before being released with no charges.

Former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa spoke against last week’s arrest, terming it as intimidation by the government.

They arrested Gaucho, the ghetto president because he spoke the truth about how President Ruto lied to Kenyans. It is the truth, hustlers are suffering,” he said over the weekend at an event at Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s Yatta farm.
