Controversial DJ Brown Skin Alias Michael Macharia Njiiri was Monday, June 12 charged with aiding the suicide of his wife Sharon Njeri Mwangi.
The charges read the incident happened on July 29, 2022 contrary to section 225 of the penal code.
The DJ was charged with a second count of failing to use all reasonable force to prevent his wife from committing suicide although he had knowledge that she was planning to commit suicide.
He was further charged with destroying suicidal evidence from his phone on June 1, 2023, having knowledge that the said evidence would be required in judicial proceedings.
He denied the charges before Milimani chief magistrate Lukas Onyina.
The prosecution opposed his release on bail.
He was detained until June 15, 2023, when the court will give a determination as to his release on bond or bail.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations revealed the details of how a blogger got the video of Njeri’s last moments.
Following investigations, detectives established that DJ Brown Skin recorded the video and sent it to his female friend who lives abroad.
The lady then sent the video to a blogger, who went public by posting it on social media sites.
The video, released on April 1, 2023, showed Njeri drinking what is believed to have been poison before she started writhing in pain and everything goes blank.
It is then that the alleged poisonous substance took a toll on her and she succumbed.
We could not get a comment from Brown Skin on the new revelations.
DJ Brown Skin was arrested on June 1, at a popular club in Kasarani, Nairobi.
His arrest came after police obtained an order from the Makadara magistrate’s court to hold him for seven days to complete investigations.
He is being investigated for aiding suicide contrary to Section 225 (c) of the Penal Code.
Police constable Wicks Lumumba of Kasarani said Brownskin failed to prevent the commission of the said offense which led to the death of Sharon.
The DJ had been summoned by detectives to shed more light on the death of his wife Njeri, 33, who ingested poison as he recorded on a device on the night of July 29 and 30, 2022.
In a heart-wrenching videotape released by the blogger on April 1, nine months after Njeri’s remains had been buried, her last moments were filmed by the DJ as she emptied a poisonous substance into a cup and ingested without hesitation.
She then slumped on a couch and called her two children to inform them of her impending death.
The mother of two collapsed and died shortly thereafter.
She was buried at her parents’ home in Koimbe Weithaga village, Murang’a County, on August 6 last year.
