Naira Marley, a popular Afrobeats musician, has been taken in by the Nigerian police for questioning regarding the death of another singer, MohBad.

MohBad’s death was shrouded in mystery and deeply saddened his fans, who demanded a thorough investigation.

The anger of the fans was mostly directed at Marley because of a feud between him and MohBad after MohBad left Marley’s music label, Marlian Records.

Marley, who had denied any involvement in MohBad’s death, returned from abroad to cooperate with the investigation.

Marley expressed his commitment to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice for MohBad.

He stated, “It’s important I do my part for Imole,” referring to another name MohBad was known by

“I’ll be meeting with the police with hopes for the truth to be uncovered and for justice to prevail,” he added on X on Tuesday

MohBad, 27 years old, passed away at a Lagos hospital, but the exact cause of his death remains unclear.

Last week, the police also took music promoter Sam Larry into custody to assist with their inquiries, but no further details were provided.

MohBad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Aloba, was quickly buried by his family after his death.

This was by the Yoruba culture, where it is customary to bury a deceased person with living parents promptly.

The police have conducted an autopsy on MohBad’s exhumed body, but the results have not yet been disclosed.

A coroner’s inquest is scheduled to continue on October 13th.

Lagos state police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that Marley was taken into custody “for interrogation and other investigation activities.”

Marley and MohBad had a bitter falling out the previous year when MohBad left Marley’s Marlian Records label after being signed for three years.

Since MohBad’s passing, videos have surfaced in which he alleged harassment and royalty disputes with individuals from the label.

Marley has vehemently denied any involvement in MohBad’s death, stating that the accusations are false.

A tribute concert in honor of MohBad took place in a Lagos park on Victoria Island, followed by fans gathering at Lekki toll gate for a vigil.

Mourners wore white T-shirts, held candles, and illuminated the night with their mobile phone torches while dancing to MohBad’s songs.

The hashtag #justiceformohbad has been trending on social media, and protests have occurred in various cities in southern Nigeria.

Fans are demanding answers about MohBad’s death, prompting the Lagos state governor to initiate an inquiry involving the country’s secret police.
