Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has denounced the recently formed Congo River Alliance led by Nangaa, terming the press conference held in Nairobi as “shocking.”
Kenyatta, who currently serves as the Facilitator of the East African Community (EAC) leading the Nairobi Peace process, expressed his dismay over the developments that unfolded on the 15th of December 2023.
During the press conference in Nairobi, individuals claiming to advocate for greater peace and stability in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) initiated a new political and military alliance, challenging the established political status quo in the region.
He repudiated these recent developments, emphasizing his concern over their military nature and the accompanying politically charged and provocative rhetoric.
The retired President reaffirm his support for the U.S.-brokered ceasefire and continues to advocate for its indefinite extension.
His objective is to facilitate the ongoing peace-building process, bring an end to the senseless violence, and alleviate the suffering of the people in the eastern DRC.
Kenyatta is committed to setting the stage for the resumption of the Nairobi peace process, with the ultimate goal of brokering a lasting peace in the troubled region of eastern DRC.
