EACC Detectives Arrest Cop For Demanding Bribe To Release Two Suspects In Nairobi

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Friday arrested a Kasarani-based police officer for soliciting a Sh30,000 bribe.

The constable of police was arrested at a liquor store along Lumumba Drive for demanding a bribe to release two brothers he had wrongfully arrested and detained at Kasarani Police Station.

EACC said the officer did not record the brothers’ alleged offenses in the station’s occurrence book.

Despite resisting arrest and causing a scene at the said liquor store, EACC detectives managed to apprehend the wailing suspect and whisked him away to Kilimani Police Station.

“The suspect was escorted to Kilimani Police Station where he is currently detained pending further processing today at EACC Integrity Centre Police Station,” police said.

“Detectives confiscated the suspect’s Taurus Revolver Pistol and ammunition, which they later handed over to the OCS EACC Police Station.”

EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi said the Commission received a complaint about the officer on Friday, subsequently carrying out investigations and apprehending the suspect.

The commission has been staging operations after receiving various complaints affecting the public.
Police have been the most affected in the complaints.
