Hyena Captured As Authorities Intensify Efforts In Juja

Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers successfully captured a nine-month-old hyena in Magomano Location, Juja Sub-County, using a specially designed predator trap.

This marks a continued effort to address the ongoing threat posed by killer hyenas in the area.

Local residents have raised concerns about the injuries and fatalities resulting from encounters with these animals.

To tackle the issue, an operation named ‘Ondoa Fisi’ was initiated in November last year, with the aim of curbing the menace in Juja.

However, some residents expressed dissatisfaction, stating that the operation had not produced the desired results.

In response to community concerns, KWS had previously shared valuable information on social media regarding how individuals should respond when faced with hyenas.

Among the seven lessons provided, one particular guideline advised people not to run, avoid displaying fear, and stay calm by engaging verbally with the aggressive animal.

This specific lesson caused a public outcry in Juja, especially following incidents where two children and a woman had lost their lives to hyena attacks.

The capture of the nine-month-old hyena is part of the ongoing efforts to address the safety concerns raised by the local community.
