President William Ruto has criticized leaders who have abandoned their duties to seek fame.
Ruto pointed fingers at leaders who he said were concerned with political popularity instead of serving Kenyans.
“Many leaders are busy looking for fame and power and forget the work they were elected to do. We were elected not to seek fame. Said the president.
Speaking during a service at ACK St Peter’s Cathedral in Nyeri County on Sunday, in an attack on leaders who have criticized the ‘Tough’ decisions of the Kenyan kwanza administration, Ruto said” I am not elected to please the people but to work for them.
“In leadership and service, we must always make the right decisions and not popular decisions. That is how we will take Kenya forward, he added.
He said he will not untightened his rope of fight against alcohol, drugs and drastic measures to reduce the cost of living because are among the agendas he chose on the ‘Tough’ decisions plans. Due to his tight plans, some leaders are threatening him that his decision risks his power of losing popularity in Mount Kenya.
“If you are saying that my tough plans of fighting alcohol and drugs in mount Kenya will lead me to lose my fame, so be it, but I won’t sit and let my people die due to illicit,” he noted.
However, the government’s war on illegal drugs and illicit alcohol has led to the closure of many businesses.
Meanwhile, depute President Rigathi Gachagua and internal security Minister Kithure Kindiki, who are leading the battle against drugs and alcohol. They urged that they won’t stop until all the illegal alcohol businesses are all shut down.
The national leader said making the right decisions is better than watching the loss of many Kenyans lives, so far the move is now bearing fruits and this will apply to all the counties that where leaders should make sure there is no illegal alcohol selling.
He continued addressing the cost of living, and he said that as per, now due to the decrease in fuel prices, the packet of flour is now decreasing, in the past months the packet of flour was around sh200 but, it has now reduced to sh100.
In 2022, the president resisted the push to bring down the flour subsidy. Instead, he decided to subsidize production by distributing subsidized fertilizer to registered farmers, who he said if the cost of fertilizers reduced the cost of flour maybe reduced during the harvest that would help in the reduction of the cost of living.
He also mentioned the strengthening of the shilling against the dollar and other major currencies in the world as some of the achievements of his government. A few months ago, the shilling was exchanged against the dollar at about sh160, it has dropped to about sh127.
The president noted that all this is after the extreme positions that he has been taking and that is what he will be doing for the development of the country.
