Kenya Approves Land Provision For Establishment Of EA-RCC


The Government of Kenya has approved the allocation of 10 acres of prime land and USD 2 million toward the construction of the Eastern Africa Regional Coordinating Centre in Nairobi.

This was disclosed by Health Cabinet Secretary Nakhumicha S Wafula during the 2nd Africa CDC Eastern Africa Regional Ministerial Steering Committee (ReSCO) meeting in Kenya’s capital.

According to the CS, the center besides coordinating Africa CDC partnerships and activities in the 14 Member States in the Eastern Africa region, will also be involved in strengthening surveillance and laboratory systems and public health communications from within.

She reaffirmed Kenya’s focus on the CDC’s mission in strengthening health institutions in the country which has remained committed to enhancing her capacity to detect and respond swiftly to disease threats and outbreaks should they arise.

The RCCs serve as hubs for Africa CDC surveillance, preparedness, and emergency response activities and coordinate regional public health initiatives by Member States in consultation with Africa CDC headquarters.

Africa CDC is meant to strengthen the capacity and capability of Africa’s public health institutions as well as partnerships to detect and respond quickly and effectively to disease threats and outbreaks, based on data-driven interventions and programs.

Also present during Thursday’s meeting was the Director-General of Africa-CDC Dr Jean Kaseya who lauded Kenya for her remarkable strides towards achieving Universal Health Coverage and community health.
