Epra Keeps Fuel Prices Stable For August-September Period

The Kenya Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (Epra) has announced that the prices of petrol, diesel, and kerosene will remain unchanged for the next month.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Epra confirmed that the current fuel prices will be maintained from August 15, 2024, to September 14, 2024.

According to the new pricing details, petrol will continue to be sold at Sh188.84 per liter, diesel at Sh171.60 per liter, and kerosene at Sh161.75 per liter in Nairobi.

These prices will take effect from midnight tonight.

Epra’s decision adheres to Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Law of 2019 and legal notice number 192 of 2022, which govern the regulation of petroleum prices.

The authority emphasized that the maximum permissible prices for these fuels have been kept constant for the specified period.

The announced prices are inclusive of a 16 percent Value Added Tax (VAT), as stipulated by the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Act 2020, and the updated excise duty rates.

This move aims to provide stability in fuel costs amid fluctuating global oil prices and local economic conditions.

Epra’s decision to keep fuel prices stable is expected to provide some relief to consumers, given the critical role of fuel in daily transportation and energy needs.

The fixed pricing structure reflects a balance between market dynamics and regulatory oversight, ensuring that consumers are shielded from abrupt changes in fuel costs during this period.
