Government Waives ID Requirement And Change Of Particulars Fees For Six Months


The Government of Kenya Friday issued a special gazette notice waiving all fees for the replacement of national ID cards and change of particulars for the next six months.

ccording to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who signed the notice, the move follows President William Ruto’s directive to ensure that every Kenyan can easily access national identification documents — a key gateway to government services and opportunities.

“This waiver follows our other reforms, which include free issuance to first-time ID applicants, abolition of the extra-vetting requirement for border counties, and the scrapping of authentication fees for birth certificates when applying for IDs and passports,” said Murkomen.

He urged members of the public to take advantage of the waiver period and acquire or update their IDs without delay.

Despite subrule (1), the fees prescribed in the Sixth Schedule in respect of duplicate/replacement and change of particulars, shall be nil for a period of six months, with effect from the date of commencement of these Rules.”
