Kenya Railways Temporarily Halts Nairobi-Limuru Commuter Trains

The Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) has temporarily halted its commuter train services operating between Nairobi and Limuru, affecting daily commuters who rely on the route for morning and evening travel.

In a statement issued on Thursday, January 8, KRC explained that the suspension, effective Friday, January 9, 2026, is due to unavoidable operational circumstances. The corporation did not provide specific details on the nature of the disruption but assured passengers that services would resume shortly.

“The Nairobi Commuter Rail Service trains, which run from Nairobi Central Station to Limuru in the mornings and evenings, will not operate tomorrow, January 9, 2026, due to unavoidable circumstances,” part of the statement read.

Commuters and residents along the Nairobi-Limuru corridor are advised to make alternative travel arrangements during the suspension. Many workers, students, and business commuters rely on this train service as a reliable and affordable means of transport, and KRC has acknowledged the temporary inconvenience caused by the disruption.

KRC further indicated that normal operations are expected to resume on Monday, January 12, 2026, and urged passengers to stay updated through official channels for any further announcements or changes.

This brief interruption comes amid ongoing efforts by Kenya Railways to maintain and modernize its commuter services, ensuring safety, punctuality, and efficiency. While the suspension may disrupt daily routines for some passengers, the corporation emphasised that the measure is temporary and necessary to address the operational issues at hand.

Kenya Railways remains a key component of Nairobi’s commuter transport network, particularly for residents in Limuru and surrounding areas who depend on reliable rail connections to the city. Passengers are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly and exercise patience as services are restored to full operation.
