Polytechnic Student Dies By Suicide Over Lost Mobile In Nyanuguti Village, Kisii County


A polytechnic student died by suicide after he lost his mobile phone in unclear circumstances in Nyanuguti village, Kisii County.

Police said Pius Makori, 22 was a first year student at the Kisii National Polytechnic.

His body was on Thursday found hanging on a tree with a tree tied around his neck.

He had the previous day lost his mobile phone at a local shopping and his efforts to trace it were futile.

This is believed to have angered him to die by suicide despite efforts by the family to comfort him.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending other procedures.

Police said six other suicide incidents were on Thursday reported in separate places.

Cases of suicide have been on the rise in separate places amid calls for attention to the menace.

Most victims are men, statistics show.

Meanwhile, police in Getare, Nyamira County are investigating an incident where a 53-year-old man was killed by his nephew in an altercation.

Police said George Makori had deep cuts in the chest and hands and died at the scene at their home.

The assailant escaped the scene soon after the murder.

It is not clear what triggered the fight.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and hunt on the suspect.

In Kathiani, Machakos County, one Kelvin Ondabu, 39 died after falling from the roof of a house under construction.

The deceased was a mason and had been contracted to construct the house when the incident
happened on February 27, police said.

A ladder he was using broke down sending him to the ground where he injured his head.

His body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

In Kipipiri area, Nyandarua County, human bones were discovered on a piece of land where a group was digging for a house foundation.

The owner claimed the bones belonged to a man who had died and was buried at the site in 1998.

They were moved to the mortuary for further probe, police said.
