19-Year-Old Man Killed In Grazing Dispute In Wajir

A 19-year-old man was killed following a violent altercation over a grazing field in Wajir County.

Police said the incident occurred on the evening of March 16 at Biad Village in Sarif Location, Banane Ward, about 25 kilometres east of Biyamathow Police Station in Sabuli Sub-County.

Police identified the deceased as Suleiman Farah Ali. Police said they responded to the scene and found that members of the public had already interfered with the scene and transported the body using a Probox vehicle to Biyamathow.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had been involved in a dispute with a suspect over a grazing field.

During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times on the head, back, and abdomen before fleeing the scene.

The body, which had visible stab wounds, was preserved at Biyamathow Health Centre, where a post-mortem examination was conducted before being released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect as investigations into the incident continue.

Elsewhere, police in Bungoma County launched investigations into a suspected murder after a man died weeks after sustaining injuries during a fight with his brother.

The incident was reported on March 16 at around 3:30pm where the deceased, identified as 56-year-old Joshua Wanyonyi Murunga, was involved in a physical altercation with his younger brother on the night of February 27 at about 9:00pm.

The cause of the disagreement remains unclear.

During the fight, Murunga was left unconscious. However, he was only taken to Bungoma County Referral Hospital on March 5, where he was admitted for treatment.

Police say the victim was pronounced dead on March 15 while still undergoing treatment at the facility.

An investigating team that visited the hospital established that the body had no visible external injuries, raising questions over the exact cause of death.

The body is currently lying at the Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Authorities have opened investigations into the incident as they seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and determine whether any criminal liability is involved.
