Revised Fuel Prices Announced for Major Towns as EPRA Adjusts Rates After VAT Cut

Fuel prices for the April–May pricing cycle have been adjusted across key towns after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) reviewed pump rates in response to a reduction in Value Added Tax.

The new prices, which take effect from 16 April to 14 May 2026, show a drop in the cost of petrol and diesel in several urban centres, with slight variations depending on location.

In a statement issued on 15 April, EPRA confirmed the revisions followed the Treasury’s decision to lower VAT from 13 percent to 8 percent, as directed by President William Ruto.

“Pursuant to Legal Notice No. 70 dated 15ᵀᴴ April 2026, the Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury has revised the Value Added Tax rate from 13% to 8%. Accordingly, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has recalculated the maximum retail pump prices that will be in force from 16ᵀᴴ April 2026 to 14ᵀᴴ May 2026, taking into account the revised Value Added Tax rates,” read the EPRA statement in part.

As a result, motorists in Nairobi will see petrol prices fall by KSh 9.37 per litre and diesel by KSh 10.21, while kerosene remains unchanged. This sets the price of Super Petrol at KSh 197.60 per litre and Diesel at KSh 196.63 within the capital.
