Gunmen Injure Woman in Shooting Over Charcoal Fee Dispute in Ukasi, Kitui County


Police are pursuing gunmen who shot and injured a 51-year-old woman during a confrontation over fee for charcoal in Ukasi, Kitui County.

The gunmen escaped after the April 26 shooting incident. She was a charcoal vendor and was shot and wounded in the left thigh, police said.

The gunmen were riding on a motorcycle when they confronted a charcoal dealer demanding cash.

This prompted a confrontation and shooting that left the woman injured, police said adding the gang escaped the scene.

The woman was rushed to the hospital for attention.

More police officers were sent to the area on Sunday to pursue the gang behind the attack.

Meanwhile, police are investigating three separate deaths.

For instance, in Eshilakwe, Kakamega County, one Paul Ongasia Amakove, 39 was found dead on the roadside after he had been assaulted by unknown people.

The motive of the attack was not immediately known, police said.

His body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations into the murder, police said on Monday following the April 25 incident.

In Kinoo, Kiambu County, one Henry Ndirangu, 59 was found dead on the roadside with blood oozing from his mouth and ears.

Police believed he was fatally assaulted and efforts to trace the assailants are ongoing.

This followed the April 26 incident. The body was moved to the mortuary pending other procedures.

In Kaptama, Bungoma County, one Caleb Kwemoi, 39 was found dead in his house in Chemoge village.

The body did not have any visible injuries when it was discovered and moved to the mortuary. He had however reported being assaulted by persons known to him over unknown issues.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations.

In Kahawa West area, Nairobi, 19-year-old Grace Wanja was found dead after an electrocution incident on the rooftop of a building.

This was after she touched a naked live electric cable that passes next to an incomplete perimeter wall of a house.

Police said the body had injuries on the neck and was moved to the mortuary for autopsy and other procedures.
