Murder Suspect Lynched By Mob In Nakuru

A 22-year-old man who was a key suspect in the murder of his mother was lynched by an angry mob in Nakuru County on Saturday, in an incident that also disrupted police investigations at the scene.

According to the police, John Kamau, who had been linked to the murder of his mother, Mary Mwiyaki, was apprehended by members of the public at Free Area on the morning of May 30, 2026.

The murder of Mary Mwiyaki had earlier been reported at Lanet Police Station on May 16, 2026.

Police said the mob escorted the suspect to his late mother’s homestead in N-Nganga area, Kiamunyeki sub-location, Lanet Umoja, where they allegedly subjected him to mob justice.

He sustained fatal injuries during the attack.

Police responded to the scene and found Kamau’s body lying within the compound of his deceased mother’s home.

He had sustained a visible head injury consistent with a physical assault.

The situation at the scene was reportedly tense, with members of the public becoming hostile.

Police said the crowd attempted to burn the body and obstructed DCI officers from processing the scene and collecting evidence.

The body was later removed to Kwa Jack Mortuary for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.

Police have launched investigations into the lynching and are seeking to identify those involved in the mob attack.

The incident highlights the growing concern over cases of mob justice, which often undermine ongoing criminal investigations and deny suspects the opportunity to face trial through the judicial process.

Elsewhere, police in Siaya County are investigating a murder incident after a 36-year-old man succumbed to injuries sustained during an assault, while the suspected attacker was later found dead in an apparent suicide.

According to the police, a woman reported that her son, Evans Ouma Oluoch, had been attacked by an assailant and seriously injured.

The victim was rushed to Siaya County Referral Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition and attended to by medical personnel.

However, he later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

Police officers visited the scene of the alleged assault at Rera area and launched investigations into the incident.

Preliminary findings identified the suspected attacker as David Jack Abunga. Investigators subsequently established that Abunga had died by suicide after allegedly hanging himself with a rope.

Police indicated that the suspected suicide had earlier been reported at Akala Police Station.

Authorities are continuing with investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding both the fatal assault and the suspect’s death.

The bodies of the deceased are expected to undergo post-mortem examinations as part of the ongoing inquiry.
