An 11-year-old girl who had been reported missing was found dead in a quarry dam in Onyuongo area, Nyakach Sub-county, Kisumu County.
Police officers responded to the incident after receiving reports of a body floating in the Onyuongo Quarry Dam.
Upon arrival, officers, with the assistance of members of the public, retrieved the body of the girl, a Grade Three pupil at Onyuongo Primary School.
According to her uncle, she went missing on the evening of June 3, 2026, at around 6:00 p.m. Her body was later discovered floating in the dam.
Police said the girl’s clothes were found neatly placed next to the water body, prompting investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death.
The scene was processed and documented by investigators, and photographs were taken as part of the inquiry.
The body was moved to Bethlehem Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.
Police have launched investigations into the incident.
Meanwhile, a 22-year-old technician was electrocuted and died on the spot while helping dismantle a billboard at the City Cabanas area along Mombasa Road in Nairobi.
The fatal incident occurred at around 4:30 a.m. on Thursday during an operation to lower a billboard using a crane.
According to police, the billboard’s metallic frame came into contact with high-voltage power lines as it was being brought down.
The deceased, identified as Victor Mureithi, was reportedly directing the landing point of the structure when he was electrocuted.
Police officers accompanied by officials from the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) Safety and Health Department, visited the scene and confirmed the incident.
Investigators found that the deceased had sustained visible burn injuries on both hands, consistent with electrocution.
Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers from Embakasi processed and documented the scene as investigations into the workplace accident commenced.
The body was moved to the Nairobi Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Authorities are continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal electrocution.
And police in Kisumu are investigating the death of a homeless man whose body was found near the Kisumu Yacht Club along Harambee Road on Thursday morning.
The body of the man, identified by local residents as Stephen Ogola, popularly known as “Jahom,” was discovered outside the perimeter fence of the Yacht Club by a patrol officer at around 9:20 a.m.
The deceased had a face mask on and showed no visible signs of physical injury. His personal belongings were found neatly placed nearby.
According to information gathered by investigators, the deceased had on Wednesday afternoon told a local resident that he had been bitten by a snake after the two met at a water point where Ogola had taken a bath.
The local reportedly advised him to seek medical attention, but he declined to go to hospital.
Later that evening, he was seen lying at the same location where his body was eventually found.
At the time, he was reportedly still alive and able to speak.
The scene was processed and documented by investigators, and the body was moved to Kisumu County Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Police said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
