Steel factory Worker Dies After Industrial Accident In Rabai, Kilifi

A 50-year-old employee of a steel manufacturing company in Kilifi County has died after sustaining severe injuries in an industrial accident at his workplace.

According to police, the incident occurred Thursday June 25 at Jumbo Steel Mills Company in Rabai Sub-County.

The incident was reported by the company’s officials who informed police that the worker, identified as Hassan Fondo Mdigo, was critically injured while on duty and later died while being rushed to Mariakani Sub-County Hospital for treatment.

Police officers visited the factory and documented the scene.

Preliminary investigations established that the deceased was injured during the final stage of the manufacturing process when a metal rod pierced through his right thigh and slightly injured his left thigh.

The victim sustained severe physical injuries and succumbed before receiving medical attention.

Crime scene personnel photographed and processed the scene as part of ongoing investigations into the workplace accident.

The body was later moved to the Coast General Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident, including compliance with workplace safety procedures, to determine whether any negligence contributed to the fatal incident.

Meanwhile, police in Ugunja Sub-County, Siaya County, are pursuing a man suspected of fatally assaulting his cousin following an incident that occurred near a river in Sidindi.

The victim, identified as Silivanus Ochieng, 35 and succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Ochieng had gone to bathe at a nearby river stream on the evening of June 24 at around 6:30 p.m.

Shortly afterward, a relative heard screams coming from the area and rushed to the scene, where she found him lying on the ground with blood oozing from the left side of his head.

Family members immediately rushed him to Ndere Dispensary, where he received treatment overnight. However, his condition reportedly deteriorated on Thursday morning, prompting a referral to Inuka Hospital. He died before receiving further treatment.

Police investigations have pointed to the deceased’s cousin, identified as Meshack Ochieng, as the prime suspect.

Detectives believe the suspect allegedly waylaid the victim as he returned from the river and assaulted him before fleeing the area.

An examination of the body revealed a deep cut wound on the left side of the head, cuts on the left hand and a swollen right shoulder, suggesting a violent attack.

During a search at the suspect’s home, officers recovered a wooden object resembling a jembe handle that had visible blood stains.

The item was seized and preserved as an exhibit to aid investigations.

The suspect remains at large, and police have launched a manhunt to trace and arrest him.

The body of the deceased has been preserved at the medical facility pending an autopsy, while crime scene investigators have documented the scene as detectives continue with investigations into the murder.
