President William Ruto has officially opened the Sh3.8 billion Ngong Road-Naivasha Road flyover, describing the project as a key investment that will ease traffic congestion, enhance mobility and support economic growth in Nairobi.
Speaking during the launch on Monday, the President said persistent traffic congestion has long weighed on the capital’s economy by delaying commuters, increasing transport and business costs, and reducing overall productivity.
He noted that congestion affects not only transport but also economic performance, arguing that hours lost in traffic translate into lower productivity, delayed earnings and missed business opportunities.
Ruto said the newly commissioned flyover is designed to eliminate one of Nairobi’s major traffic bottlenecks by separating traffic flows and improving movement for motorists, pedestrians and public transport users.
He added that modern transport infrastructure should reduce travel times, lower transport costs, enhance road safety and improve the efficiency of urban centres.
The President also acknowledged the Government and people of Spain for supporting the project, saying the partnership reflects a shared commitment to Kenya’s development agenda.

The Ngong Road flyover forms part of a broader programme to modernise Nairobi’s transport network through several ongoing infrastructure projects.
Among them is the Sh3 billion Upper Hill-Kenyatta Avenue flyover, which Ruto said is approximately 60 per cent complete. Once finished, the project is expected to improve access to the central business district while reducing congestion in one of the city’s busiest commercial areas.
He further announced the upgrade of State House Road through a Sh1.6 billion project aimed at improving another critical transport corridor within Nairobi.
The President also said the government is constructing access roads to Talanta Sports City at a cost of Sh3.9 billion as part of preparations for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
In addition, he revealed plans to dual the 23.5-kilometre Kiambu Road corridor from Muthaiga to Kiambu, including its bypasses, through a project valued at $221 million, equivalent to about Sh30 billion.
Ruto also disclosed that construction is underway on a modern traffic management centre worth $60 million, approximately Sh7.9 billion, which is expected to enhance traffic monitoring and improve mobility across the city.
According to the President, the government’s ongoing investments are intended to build an efficient transport system capable of meeting the demands of Nairobi’s growing population, expanding economy and increasing need for reliable urban mobility.
