A 26-year-old woman was stabbed and killed in a robbery mission.
The deceased identified as Doreen Ekesa was stabbed in the neck by a gang that wanted to grab her mobile phone and cash on Sunday night.
She was in the company of her cousin who managed to escape the attack, police and witnesses said.
Police said a gang had been attacking and robbing pedestrians in the Kariadudu area when they confronted Ekesa.
She allegedly resisted orders by the gang to surrender her valuables and cash prompting the stabbing.
She was escorted by members of the public to Hope Clinic in the area where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
A mob rioted in the area upon learning about the incident lighting tyres on the road and refusing to have the body collected.
After talks with the police, the mob agreed to have it removed to the mortuary.
Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they are looking for the gang behind the incident.
He added they had enhanced patrols in the city to address such incidents even as he advised those attacked not to resist.
Cases of robberies have been on the rise in the past few days amid efforts to contain them.
