As the nation continues to mourn the loss of 21 students who perished in a fire at Endarasha Hillside Academy last week, another fire has struck Isiolo Girls High School.
On Saturday evening, a blaze erupted at the school, destroying an unknown amount of property and causing widespread panic among parents, guardians, and local residents who rushed to protect the students and safeguard belongings.
A video obtained by media depicted the students in distress as firefighting efforts were underway.
The Kenya Red Cross and local police swiftly dispatched rescue teams to the scene.
The Kenya Red Cross confirmed the activation of firefighting teams, stating, “A fire has been reported at Isiolo Girls High School, Isiolo County.
Firefighting teams have been activated.”
Police spokesperson Dr. Resla Onyango reported that, thankfully, no injuries have been recorded.
He noted that the local community came together to help control and contain the blaze.
“The fire has been brought under control, and experts are on-site for investigation and procedural follow-ups,” Dr. Onyango said, adding that efforts are ongoing to account for all students.
The Kenya Defense Forces also contributed to the emergency response by deploying a fire truck to assist in extinguishing the fire.
This incident follows closely on the heels of the tragic fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri County, which claimed 21 lives and left about 25 others hospitalized.
Investigations into both fires are ongoing as authorities work to determine the causes and prevent future tragedies.
