Kisii governor Simba Arati wants an investigation into what he claims is a conspiracy by the DCI department in Kisii County to arrest him and some of his supporters.
Arati, who recorded a statement at DCI headquarters in Nairobi with his lawyers Governor James Orengo and Otiende Amolo, claims that the plot involves searching his houses in Kisii and Nairobi for allegedly possessing illegal firearms.
Addressing journalists on Monday, Orengo said they have submitted to the DCI headquarters an audio recording of a Criminal Investigation Officer (CCIO) in Kisii County allegedly talking a plot to plant a gun at Arati’s house.
“We have given the police a copy of the clip where the CCIO in Kisii is recorded giving instructions and knowledge on how guns and other items will be placed on governor Arati,” Orengo said.
He added “part of this is to ensure that Government Arati is not given the chance to carry out his duties as Government of Kisii.” On his part, senior counsel Otiende Amolo said the DCI promised to address the matter.
“It is unique complaint. Governor Arati has submitted a complaint to the DCI against the DCI. They have assured us that action will be taken, so let’s wait and see the action because the alternative is to take the law into our own hands,” he said.
