Three people have been arrested in Kisii in connection with a spate of transformer vandalism.
The arrests come as part of a broader operation aimed at curbing Kenya Power infrastructure vandalism in the country.
The suspects were apprehended in various locations, including Oyugis, Mosocho, Nyakoe, and Kisii Towns.
The coordinated efforts of the operation led to the successful capture of these alleged criminals.
According to Kenya Power (KPLC), the suspects were found in possession of items linked to the vandalism of transformers.
The first suspect, a woman, was discovered with approximately 10 liters of suspected transformer oil and a stolen Kenya Power post-paid meter.
“One suspect, a woman, was found in possession of suspected 10 litres of transformer oil and a stolen Kenya Power post-paid meter. Another male suspect was arrested with suspected stolen Kenya Power equipment while the third one, a scrap metal dealer, was found with assorted copper windings.” KPLC said in a statement Monday.

All three individuals are currently in police custody at Kisii Police Station. They are expected to appear before a Kisii court on Wednesday to face charges related to transformer vandalism.
In a separate incident in Kiambu, a man will be detained for a fortnight as part of an ongoing investigation into transformer vandalism.
This man was apprehended by police officers while transporting a transformer, suspected to have been stolen from Riabai trading center, in his lorry.
Upon the arrest, the driver was taken into custody, and the lorry was towed to Kiambu Police Station for further examination.
Law enforcement agencies are actively interrogating the suspect as they work to identify any additional individuals involved in the theft and vandalism of transformers.
Major (Retired) Paul Nyaga, the Manager of Kenya Power Security Services, commended the collaborative efforts of the security agencies in addressing transformer vandalism.

He encouraged the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to electrical infrastructure.
“We urge the community to be on the lookout for any suspicious activities around electrical infrastructure and to report any incidents of this kind,” Nyaga said.
“It is critical to emphasise that the government is firm in its commitment to identify and prosecute those responsible for these acts of vandalism. The safety and integrity of our electrical infrastructure are critical, and all required resources and efforts will be directed to ensuring that vandals face the full force of the law,” he added
