Authorities in Mwingi are investigating an alarming incident where unknown individuals torched the house of a local teacher, leaving him homeless.
Silvester Mwendwa, the victim of the arson attack, teaches in Kitui East sub-county and fortunately escaped any physical harm, as he was not at home during the event.
Mwendwa recounted the distressing experience, explaining that he was at work on Wednesday when he received a phone call bearing the grim news.
He was told that his house had been set ablaze by unidentified assailants.
“I hurried home immediately, hoping to salvage some of my belongings, but by the time I got there, the damage was already done.
Everything I owned had been consumed by the fire,” Mwendwa said, his voice filled with frustration.
The entire house, along with all his possessions, had been completely destroyed.
Mwendwa is now calling for justice, expressing deep concern that the perpetrators of the crime remain at large.
He questioned how such an attack could go unpunished, emphasizing that those responsible must be held accountable.
“It’s painful to lose everything in such a malicious act, and it’s even more troubling that no one has been apprehended yet,” Mwendwa said.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
Jamleck Mbai, the assistant chief of Muruana sub-location within Mwingi Central sub-county, confirmed that police are actively looking into the matter.
Following Mwendwa’s report, law enforcement officers have been working to identify those responsible for the heinous crime.
“We are pursuing crucial leads and are confident that we will soon identify those involved in this attack,” Mbai stated, assuring the community that the authorities are committed to ensuring justice is served.
The investigation remains ongoing, with police determined to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice.
