Azimio la Umoja has adopted a new political identity and will now operate as the Ukombozi Alliance.
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka announced the rebranding on Monday, September 21, saying the coalition would no longer use its previous name.
Kalonzo said the new alliance would be guided by the political philosophy “One Term, One Team, One Coalition.”
The coalition is also expected to open discussions with the Jubilee Party to determine the way forward for the newly rebranded alliance.
Kalonzo said representatives from the two sides would meet from Tuesday, September 22, for talks on the coalition’s future direction.
The rebranding comes as former President Uhuru Kenyatta prepares to facilitate the transfer of the Jubilee Party chairmanship following a High Court ruling that upheld Section 6 of the Presidential Retirement Benefits Act.
In a statement issued on September 15, Uhuru’s office said the court decision had provided clarity on the transition of retired presidents away from formal leadership positions in political parties.

Uhuru welcomed the ruling, saying it should not be viewed as limiting his political activities but as an indication of Kenya’s democratic maturity.
His office also explained that the delayed transfer of the Jubilee chairmanship had resulted from an internal dispute that required legal determination.
With the court having provided direction on the matter, Uhuru said he was ready to facilitate the handover in accordance with the law and Jubilee Party’s constitution.
He further welcomed what he described as a new chapter for Jubilee, with the party expected to move forward under a new generation of leaders.
