Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino has responded to President Ruto over his recent remark that the government is running out of money.
In a recent statement to doctors, the president was seen bitterly said that the government treasurer doesn’t have enough money in the account to meet their demands on strike, and salary increases. In a video that Babu Owino posted on his online pages, he said that he has a solution for President Ruto to end the countrywide strike which is now in its third week and has crippled many medical operations in the public hospitals in the country.
Babu Owino advised President Ruto to auction one of his expensive watches to get money to pay the doctors so they can go back to work.
“Yesterday I heard Ruto saying that he has no money to pay doctors. You cannot tell us as a president that there is no money when the watch you wear is expensive. “Sell them and pay the doctors.” Babu Owino said.
He also urged the doctors not to cancel their strike until their demands are heard and implemented by the government.
The Member of Parliament went ahead and quoted a passage from the Bible about a father leaving his sons and a meaningful legacy.
“The Bible says that if your son asks for bread, should you give him a stone? And if he asks for a fish, do you give him a snake? So your children who are doctors have asked, give them fish, and give them bread. This Kenya has money, taxes increased, and there is a lot of money,” he advised the president.
The doctor’s strike has continued for almost a month now demanding that the 2017 CBA contract be implemented, including increasing the salary of trainee doctors from 70,000 to 204,000.
On the weekend, the general secretary of the union of doctors KMPDU, Devji Atellah said medical activities will continue to be disrupted throughout the country and even called for another protest which was to start yesterday April 9th.
