A police armoured vehicle had its tyre damaged in an attack by gunmen in Samburu County.

The group of General Service Unit from Kurkur camp were on routine patrol in the Learoni area when they came under attack on July 11.

Police said it was then they engaged a group of gunmen in a shootout forcing the officers to retreat into their vehicle.

The vehicle had its left front left tyre of the MRAP vehicle deflated in the attack.

No officer was injured.

The bandits had last week targeted and shot a military soldier in the same area.

The soldiers are constructing a road in the area which the gunmen seem to be opposed to.

The area is among those badly affected by armed bandits who repeatedly attack and steal animals.

An operation has been mounted there to tame the armed conflict and has so far realized dozens of illegal guns.

But the attackers keep returning to the area for more animals amid calls for more development projects there.
