Bolt Food has widened its offerings in Kenya through a new partnership with supermarket chain Quickmart, allowing customers to purchase thousands of retail products directly via the delivery platform’s app.
The collaboration will enable shoppers to access more than 12,000 items from over 60 Quickmart outlets, ranging from groceries and beverages to household essentials and personal care products.
The move marks a significant expansion of Bolt Food’s services as digital commerce firms increasingly compete for a larger share of consumers’ daily spending beyond restaurant deliveries.
For Quickmart, which operates 70 stores across the country, the partnership introduces an additional online sales channel amid growing demand for convenient and digitally enabled shopping experiences.
According to Bolt Food General Manager for Kenya and Ghana, Ali Zaryab, integrating retail services into the platform will improve access to everyday necessities while reinforcing Bolt’s contribution to the development of Kenya’s digital commerce landscape.
Bolt noted that the initiative is also expected to generate more earning opportunities for delivery riders on its platform. The company referenced findings from a recent study conducted with Ipsos, which estimated that Kenya’s gig economy supports approximately 1.5 million workers and contributes more than KSh100 billion annually to the economy.

The development mirrors a broader global trend where food-delivery companies are diversifying into grocery and retail deliveries to drive growth. Unlike restaurant orders, which are often concentrated around meal times, retail purchases can generate more frequent transactions and stronger customer engagement.
Quickmart Chief Marketing Officer Betty Wamaitha said the partnership aligns with the retailer’s commitment to convenience as it marks two decades of serving Kenyan consumers. She noted that on-demand delivery will make shopping more accessible and efficient for customers.
Kenya’s e-commerce sector has continued to grow, driven by increased smartphone penetration, widespread mobile money adoption and rising demand for home-delivery services. The partnership represents the first stage of Bolt Food’s wider retail expansion plans in Kenya, with the company indicating it intends to onboard additional retail partners as it strengthens its presence in the country’s evolving digital marketplace.
