In Baringo County, around 100 farmer groups involved in producing milk, meat, and honey are getting a helping hand from a Sh20 million support initiative by the Agriculture Sector Development Programme (ASDSP).
Governor Benjamin Cheboi, overseeing the distribution of various agricultural tools in Kabarnet town, emphasized the importance of these resources in enhancing productivity within the priority value chains.
The distributed items range from beehives to sewing machines for honey harvesting gear, along with milk and meat fridge-freezers, motorbikes for extension services, wood cutting machines, and pasture seeds.

Cheboi highlighted the significance of empowering farmers, who make up 58 percent of the county’s population, to transform the agricultural landscape and ensure food security.
He encouraged farmers to adopt innovative techniques for higher yields and better market prices.
“We want to change the narrative by investing in extension services and modern practices,” Cheboi explained.
“This shift aims to improve both the quality and quantity of produce in the shortest time possible.”
Accompanied by county commissioner Stephen Kutwa and deputy Eng Felix Kimaiyo, Cheboi urged farmers to safeguard their product patents from adulteration, emphasizing the importance of maintaining value.
Eng Kimaiyo emphasized the role of extension officers in training farmers on best practices to enhance productivity.
These officers gather field data to aid planning and improve farmer welfare.
Kutwa praised the distribution of equipment, foreseeing direct benefits to grassroots farmers.
He also encouraged more farmers to register in groups to access transformative programs aimed at improving their income.
Kutwa also informed farmers about government-subsidized fertilizers available at Kabarnet National Cereals and Produce Board, urging them to register and take advantage of such opportunities.
