In the Dutch city of Lochem, tragedy struck as part of a bridge under construction collapsed, resulting in the deaths of two workers.
“The incident occurred when cables holding a bridge arch snapped while it was being lifted into place, causing it to plummet to the ground.”
The collapse also left two others injured, who are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
Authorities are labeling the collapse as an “industrial accident” and are actively investigating its cause.

“According to Dutch broadcaster NOS, one of the deceased workers hailed from Belgium while the other was from Poland.
However, no further details such as their names or ages were provided.”
Witnesses to the incident, including dozens of onlookers, are receiving psychological support after witnessing the tragic event.
“One witness recounted seeing the arch swinging before hearing a sudden, loud bang.”
The bridge was intended to span a major canal as part of a new ring road project in Lochem, located in the eastern province of Gelderland.
Lochem’s mayor, Sebastiaan van ‘t Erve, expressed shock over the incident, emphasizing that the community had been eagerly anticipating the completion of the road after five years of development.
“We’ve been developing the construction for five years. And then in just one day, the whole thing comes tumbling down, killing two people, injuring two others,” he stated.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the collapse, while local officials confirmed that the injured individuals are expected to recover.
“Andre Meilink from the regional safety authority explained to NOS that the collapse occurred during an attempt to lift the bridge, causing the twisted section to fall to the ground.”
