In a surprising development, prominent businessman David Langat has clarified that he is not involved in the recent arrest of political activist Morara Kebaso.
On Tuesday, Langat stated that he did not file a complaint against Kebaso, despite what is indicated in a widely circulated charge sheet.
“On the invitation of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), our Chairman recorded a statement at DCI Headquarters this morning, confirming that he has no connection to the authors or content of the online posts in question,” a statement from DL Group of Companies Limited noted. Langat has since called for an immediate investigation into the matter.
According to the charge sheet, Kebaso faces allegations of cyber harassment stemming from a post on his X account made on September 28.
The post was characterized as spreading false information aimed at damaging Langat’s reputation.
In it, Kebaso claimed that “William Ruto approached DL Langat and told him he desperately needs more money for his campaign.
DL Langat used his properties as security and took out large loans to help his friend.
Now, DL Langat is being auctioned by banks, and the person buying the properties is William Ruto.
To make matters worse, Ruto has used his influence to undervalue the properties, allowing him to purchase them at a lower price.
That is the kind of person we are dealing with he has no friends.”
Kebaso has been released on a cash bail of sh. 50,000, with the case scheduled for mention on October 4. His arrest on Monday caused significant public outcry across Kenya.
