Businessman Loses Two Lorries To Rogue Auctioneer In Thika

A businessman in Thika town has lost two of his lorries after they were sold by an auctioneer he claims acted outside the law.

The incident has sparked public outrage and heated discussions on social media.

The businessman, Rufus Kiretai, said he had partially paid off a debt related to an accident involving one of his trucks.

He claims he paid KSh 700,000 of a KSh 2.5 million settlement.

Despite this, an auctioneer repossessed and sold both of his trucks — registered KDB 265U and KCU 122U.

Videos shared widely online show Kiretai pleading for the return of his lorries.

In one clip, he can be seen shouting, “I have paid! I have paid!” while his children watch in distress.

The auctioneer’s firm, however, says the sale was legal and that there is an active court case concerning the trucks.

The loss has left Kiretai’s family in a difficult position.

The lorries were their main source of income, and with them gone, they face financial strain.

His children have reportedly missed school due to unpaid fees, and the family risks eviction from their home.

Social media users have reacted with sympathy and criticism.

Some called the auction process unfair, while others reminded people to carefully read loan agreements.

Financial experts also weighed in, saying that incidents like this highlight the need for transparent and regulated auctions to protect ordinary Kenyans.

In Kenya, it is common for vehicles to be sold in auctions to recover unpaid debts, but proper legal procedures must always be followed.

Cases like Kiretai’s raise questions about the enforcement of court orders and the oversight of auctioneers.

Kiretai has vowed to challenge the sale in court and recover his trucks.

Authorities, including the auctioneering regulatory board, are expected to investigate.

Meanwhile, the case has sparked national conversation about fairness, debt recovery, and the protection of livelihoods.
