A company behind
the construction of the Sh6 billion Buxton affordable housing project in Mombasa was Saturday ranked as the best real estate developer.
Buxton Point was recognized during the Mombasa Business Awards Gala Dinner at a spectacular event in Mombasa.
The Mombasa business awards is an annual event that is organized by the Kenya National Chambers of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) Mombasa Chapter.
The event was graced by Governor Abdulswamad Sharrif Nassir and Saudi Ambassador to Kenya Khalif bin Abdullah Al-Salman.
Also present were Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro and East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Suleiman Shahbal among other leaders.
Other contenders in the category were Aden Contractors, Fairdeal Properties, Solian Properties Limited, and Kenya Projects.
The award was received by Buxton Point CEO Ahmed Badawy who led his team to the stage at Jumeirah Beachfront.
Badawy dedicated the award to the company’s sales team which is being run by people living with disabilities.
“This is an honor to us and we are delighted by the confidence given to us by the people of Mombasa. We thank all the stakeholders including the county government for supporting us and ensuring this project becomes a reality,” said Badawy.
This is the second award the Buxton project has received this year. The first one was a
Gold star award awarded by the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) Africa.
The award also recognized the project’s social amenities and facilities including having provisions for a community center, disability and elderly-friendly environment, connectivity to town, kindergarten, social hall, sports courts, green areas, and swimming pool among others.
The project survey and scoring were done by both the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) and ITDP Africa, a non-governmental organization.
The Buxton project involves the construction of 2,000 affordable units.
The project’s phase one includes 584 units which will be handed over next year.
The remaining units are in Phase Two whose sale is currently ongoing.
