Mystery surrounds the death of a class seven pupil who is suspected to have killed himself in Rachuonyo North East Sub County, Homa Bay County.
His body was found in a bush after a suspected suicide.
This is after he found one of the goats he was taking care of dead in the bush.
He used a rope from the dead goat to hang himself, police said.
Police have launched investigations into the incident where the 12-year-old boy identified as Felix Odhiambo Okech allegedly committed suicide in a bush away from their home on Saturday, December 17 evening by hanging himself with a rope on a tree.
The pupil of Dudi Primary School is reported to have left home to untie their goats from the grazing field but went missing until late in the evening when his lifeless body was found dangling from the top of the tree.
The minor’s father Michael Okech, said he might have hanged himself after he found one goat dead in the grazing field under unclear circumstances.
He said that out of fear, the boy took a rope from the dead goat and used it to hang himself.
Rachuonyo East Sub-County Police Commander Justus Kucha said police have not established the motive behind the incident.
The body was moved to Rachuonyo South Sub County Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Police say cases of suicide are on the rise.
The World Health Organisation says such cases are attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties and financial difficulties.
Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression and bipolar disorder.
WHO rates suicide as a serious global public health issue that is among the top 20 leading causes of death worldwide.
